BBVA has been recognized as the best bank in Latin America in the "development" category of the sustainability accolades awarded by Latin Trade magazine, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

In this award category, Latin Trade seeks to recognize companies that “comply in an exemplary manner with the latest trends in the development of the industry with outstanding results for customers, shareholders, collaborators, and community; with a strategic focus that is systematically deployed in productive efficiency to promote sustainable development.”

At the award ceremony held on Friday, March 18, 2022, the head of the BBVA global Sustainability area, Javier Rodríguez Soler, gave thanks for the accolade: “This recognition from the Latin Trade Index America's Sustainability Awards motivates us even more to continue our efforts to find the best sustainable solutions and support our customers in their environmental transition in Latin America and in the rest of the world."

In his speech, Rodríguez Soler underscored the importance of developing countries’ engagement with this transition. “Emerging economies are key and play a critical role, so all the action and the decarbonization should be global to have a real impact. Emerging economies, and, in particular, Latin America should join the race to decarbonization, " he said.

The virtual event was attended by the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver-Carone; the chairman of Latin Trade, Richard Burns; and Mekala Krishnan, a partner at the McKinsey Global Institute.
