BBVA Mexico's nearly 19 million mobile customers can now know their carbon footprint through the app
BBVA Mexico has launched the Carbon Footprint Calculator for all its customers who use the BBVA Mexico app. BBVA Mexico seeks to help consumers learn about and reflect on the impact of their daily actions on the environment and at the same time receive recommendations to reduce their footprint.
Hugo Nájera Alva, head of Customer Solutions at BBVA Mexico, said: "This calculator will let us all know about our relationship with carbon dioxide and, in addition, we can implement basic actions to help the planet. We are certain that our efforts as a bank and those of our customers will add significantly to the many actions that are being carried out around the world.
“We are certain that our efforts as a bank and those of our customers will add significantly to the many actions that are being carried out around the world.”
Nájera indicated that the fight against climate change is a duty and a conviction that involves everyone--society, companies and governments--to achieve the goal of mitigating global warming.
The bank's 18.9 million mobile customers at the end of 2022 can access the Carbon Footprint calculator through the "Sustainability" section, which is located when opening the BBVA Mexico app (go to the app's sidebar menu on the top right and click on "Sustainability").
So that each customer who uses the app can know their carbon footprint, it is not necessary to enter any additional data. To measure the individual impact of these actions, the BBVA carbon footprint calculator factors in the expenses incurred when paying with BBVA debit and credit cards and direct debits of gas, electricity and gasoline services, and reflects them in kg of carbon dioxide. These measurements are accompanied by simple and easy-to-understand equivalents to track progress and achieve reduction targets.
The "Sustainability" section of the BBVA Mexico app features information, news and useful tips with the intention of building habits that help improve the environment. Just over a year after its launch, it has achieved more than 5 million unique visits.
