BBVA donates €300,000 to social and environmental projects at its2025 Annual General Meeting

For the fifth consecutive year, the bank will donate €300,000 to social organisations operating in the social and environmental spheres at its Annual General Meeting. The winning entities for 2025 are the Asociación Madrileña Para Ayuda del Recluso Abandonado, the Asindown Foundation, the Francisco Luzón Foundation, and the Scout Griebal Foundation.

In December 2024, BBVA launched an open call, which attracted 147 project submissions from various social organisations.

These are the winners in each of the four categories defined by BBVA for social organisations to present their projects. Each organisation has received an initial sum of €50,000, plus a proportional share of the remaining €100,000, which was distributed on the basis of shareholder votes. The voting results were as follows: health and dependency 53.13%, education 20.01%, inequality 16.25%, and environment 10.61%.

  • Francisco Luzón Foundation will receive €103,132 in the health and dependency category. The foundation, which is focused on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), aims to develop and implement a national platform containing clinical and socio-economic data on ALS patients to advance research and treatment for this disease.
  • Asindown Foundation will receive €70,008 in the education category for its project in the Valencian Community, which suffered severe consequences from the DANA storm a few months ago. The initiative seeks to develop psychological, therapeutic, and educational support mechanisms for people with intellectual disabilities and their families affected by DANA.
  • Asociación Madrileña para Ayuda del Recluso Abandonado  (AMPARA) will receive €66,249 in the inequality category. This project provides care for children up to three years old residing with their mothers in penitentiary centres, ensuring they receive the necessary stimuli for their development.
  • Scout Griebal Foundation will receive €60,611 in the environment category for its project aimed at wildfire prevention and forest conservation in the Aragonese Pyrenees. The initiative includes the construction of an easily accessible storage facility for forestry tools.

For this edition, a multidisciplinary jury composed of BBVA representatives and leading social organisations selected the four winning organisations, taking into account the project's relevance, feasibility, and impact.

A Project with Five Years of History

BBVA launched this initiative in 2021 on the occasion of the Annual General Meeting. It seeks to address the key social and environmental challenges in order to contribute to the sustainable and inclusive growth of our society. In the first annual program, aimed at alleviating the effects of COVID 19 on the most vulnerable, the bank made a charitable donation of €300,000, coinciding for the first time with the holding of its AGM. The first selected non-profits were Doctors of the World, Fundación A La Par, Fundación Educo and Fundación Exit.

In 2022, the selected non-profits were ATADES, Aldeas Infantiles SOS, Asociación Amica and ECODES. In 2023, shareholders picked Fundación Grande Amigos en Acción, Fundación Plan International, CESAL and Fundación Ecomar. Finally, in 2024, the winning entities were Talismán Association, Emet Foundation, Puente de Esperanza Madrid Association, and Madre Coraje Foundation.
