The Birmingham, Ala., chapter of BBVA Compass Volunteers made the donation on behalf of the bank after hearing about the affordable housing provider’s need for computers to assist resident programs at their 14 community centers throughout the city. The donation, which included 36 desktops, 27 laptops and four laser printers, marked the culmination of several months of work by the volunteer chapter.

“BBVA Compass is fully committed to living bright in our communities, and doing good work in them through a variety of means.

“BBVA Compass is fully committed to living bright in our communities, and doing good work in them through a variety of means,” said Melodi Morrissette, BBVA Compass Community Relations Executive for the East Region. “Our volunteer team has been providing financial education courses to HABD residents, so we knew computers were a need. We’re so pleased we could meet that need with these computers.”

BBVA Compass Birmingham volunteers aided the bank’s equipment vendor in cleaning the equipment, testing for proper functionality and running hard drive wiping software on each system. The process for the donation to the Housing Authority of Birmingham District was completed over the course of three months.

“These computers will be used at our community centers throughout the city, and will also aid students enrolled in our GED program,” said Michael O. Lundy, President and CEO Housing Authority of the Birmingham District. “This major technology improvement gives us another strong tool in enhancing the quality of life for our residents. The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District is grateful for the partnership with BBVA Compass as we all work together to grow and elevate our entire Birmingham community.”
