What small business resources do veterans have?
Veterans looking for jobs in the civilian world now have another tool at their disposal and another way to create opportunities for themselves and for their families.
Recently, Google rolled out new search tools to help veterans find jobs that match their skills. In addition, Google is also allowing businesses to identify as “veteran-owned” or “veteran-led” in Google Maps and mobile searches, according to this CNBC article.

Enter the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The SBA boasts a suite of programs that encourage small business growth and cultivate entrepreneurship. As such, they also have programs that can assist veterans in reaching their goals of becoming business owners.
According to the SBA website, the administration uses the Office of Veterans Business Development to facilitate the use of its programs by:
- Veterans
- Service-disabled veterans
- Reservists
- Active-duty service members
- Transitioning service members
- Dependents
Part of the assistance the SBA offers includes funding. The administration offers an online referral tool that connects small businesses with approved lenders – free of charge.
Veterans can also look into training programs that teach business fundamentals. One such program includes the Boots to Business course, which is also open to transitioning service members – and spouses.
