Spain is one of the Top 30 innovative countries
According to the 2013 Global Innovation Index, Spain has climbed three places in the last year and is now at number 26 in this ranking, with a score of 49.41 out of 100, compared to 66.59 in Switzerland, the most innovative country.
Switzerland, Sweden, UK, Netherlands and the USA. These are the countries that make up the Top 5 of the most innovative countries in the world, according to the 2013 Global Innovation Index 2013. Spain has jumped three places in the ranking compared to the 2012 results and now ranks 26.
With 49.41 points out of a possible 100, Spain has climbed these positions, which place it, moreover, as the seventeenth European country in this ranking. Nevertheless, the Spanish efficiency ratio is very low and does not even make the Top 100.
The Spanish areas with the best innovative score are those encompassing infrastructure (the twelfth country with the best innovation in this field) and market (10). The latter area, which has a score of 72.2 out of 100, includes innovation in credit (seventh country) and investment (number 15). In terms of infrastructure, the field of ecological sustainability, stands out, where Spain is the second most innovative country in the world.
Despite the economic turmoil, innovation is still alive, as shown in this index that has analyzed 142 economies around the world setting 84 indicators including quality in universities, access to microfinance and venture capital deals.
Overall, Latin America is the region that has experienced the most significant improvement in this ranking. Costa Rica, Chile and Barbados are placed on the podium in this area, which has 19 countries in the Top 100.
