Google: "Now you have the whole world in the palm of your hand"

“In the next five years we are going to see a big revolution, with many people coming to the internet for the first time; and the bigger the number of people who get connected, the stronger the change, not only in commerce but also in life”. Matt Brittin, president of Google in Europe, The Middle East and Africa, took part in Retina, the El País newspaper's Latin American forum on digital transformation.

The director of the US company emphasized the importance of Youtube in education -“there are now many of us learning with this platform- and the growing importance of video over text on the internet, “in YouTube we realize how passionate they are about stimulating creativity. We are moving toward a connected world of 3,000 million people, which will reach 5,000 in five years. Creative and economic growth will be exponential", and he added that "jobs will be created at a very fast rate as marketing is connected instantly with business and suppliers”.

He also highlighted mobile telephony as the latest revolution: “Now you have the whole world in the palm of your hand. You can take a photo of a poster in another language and find what it means in your own language”.

For Matt Brittin this is definitely the ideal moment for entrepreneurship: “At Google we have given training to over a million people around the world, 30% of them women. There is no better time to be an entrepreneur, here and in the rest of the world".

With reference to Spain, the director of Google gave a series of key ideas: “A commitment has to be made to digital training. I see opportunities. I know there is high unemployment, but with digital courses and skills this situation can improve”.

Brittin ended by tabling 3 ideas:

  • Make yourself known, 90% of success in life is about people knowing what you're capable of doing.
  • Improve. There are many tools that can take you further.
  • Speed up.
