El Celler de Can Roca, once again among the world’s best

El Celler de Can Roca, which has been ranked in the top-5 since 2009, scooped the second position, for the forth time in its history. Joan Roca’s work has been recognized by chefs, who have awarded him with the Chef’s Choice Award.

Along with El Celler de Can Roca, Italian Osteria Francescana leads the ranking this year; behind the restaurant in Girona the top-5 is completed by the Northamerican Eleven Madison Park (nº3), Peruvian Central (nº4) and Danish Noma (nº5).

The Roca brothers attended last night’s The World’s 50 Best Restaurants gala, held in New York, were prestigious magazine Restaurant unveiled the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. “Being chosen among the best for so many years motivates us to keep improving and innovating. The movement at the top of the ranking goes to show that these are great times for world cuisine”, said Joan, the eldest of the Roca brothers.

In 2013, El Celler de Can Roca was ranked at the top of the The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for the first time, after coming in second the two previous years. Last year, it again reclaimed its spot at the top of the list, the most prestigious in the culinary world. The family-owned restaurant’s leadership is built on innovation, perseverance and the passion for cooking that all members of El Celler de Can Roca team share.

The annual ceremony, organized by British magazine Restaurant, is broadly seen as the Oscars of the culinary world. The list is produced based on a poll of international chefs, restaurateurs, gourmands and restaurant critics.  Each region has its own panel, consisting of 36 experts, including a chairperson appointed in each of them.

In late July, Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca, and their entourage of 40 cooks and waiters from their team in Girona will pack their suitcases to embark, in their third consecutive annual tour around the globe. On this occasion, El Celler de Can Roca will be visiting London, Hong Kong, Phoenix, San Francisco and Santiago de Chile. In each city, BBVA customers and guests will be invited to enjoy a special and different menu that will pay homage to each country’s culture and cuisine. Also, in each stop of the BBVA 2016 Tour, the Roca brothers will participate in a series of conferences and activities that food lovers will be able to enjoy.

As in previous editions of the tour, several students will be offered the opportunity to work and learn as part of the El Celler de Can Roca team. In each one of the cities visited, Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca will choose two students, who will be invited to complete a 4 month training program in Girona.
