Garanti BBVA issues new Tier 2 bond
Garanti BBVA has successfully completed a new Basel III-compliant Tier 2 bond issuance, demonstrating the bank’s strong position in international markets. This marks its second Tier 2 bond this year. The bond was issued with a 10-year maturity, a five-year call option, and a total value of $750 million. Garanti BBVA also extended a tender offer to its investors for the $750 million nominal value of the Tier 2 bond it issued in 2017, with a 2027 maturity.
This issuance offers a yield of 8.125 percent, making it the most cost-effective Tier 2 issuance in recent years, with the tightest spread over U.S. Treasury from a Turkish bank. Furthermore, this transaction is notable for being the largest bond issued by a Turkish bank this year. It also marks Garanti BBVA’s second successful subordinated debt issuance in the year.
Mahmut Akten, CEO of Garanti BBVA, stressed that the issuance demonstrates the bank’s ability to build long-lasting relationships in global capital markets, the trust investors have in its strong financial position, and their favorable outlook toward investing in Turkiye. “We will continue to create value for our country through our robust financial performance and the credibility we have built in international capital markets," he added.
