For the second year in a row, the U.S. publication named BBVA one of the best companies in the world in a ranking developed in conjunction with Statista. The financial institution is the top Spanish bank on the list and ranks eighth worldwide.

Onboarding initiatives are a key tool when it comes to retaining talent and generating a strong employee experience. BBVA has been improving its processes for new hires, achieving tangible benefits for both the candidates and the company itself.

The Age Friendly Institute has recognized the bank as a 50+ friendly company for its talent management policies and practices.

The financial institution allocates a week to promote and raise awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyle habits among its employees. Activities such as medical consultations, nutrition guidance, physical exercise, mental health support, and sleep hygiene are front and center across all the countries where the bank operates.

BBVA received the Gallup Award for one of the world’s top workplaces. This marks the third time the financial institution has received this global recognition.

The financial institution had 34.7 percent women in leadership positions in 2023, with promotions of women surpassing those of men in all countries where the bank has a presence. BBVA has announced a new target for the next two years, aiming to reach 36.8 percent female managers.

BBVA is the top Spanish financial institution in the ranking by the prestigious U.S. publication. The list, compiled from 170,000 employee surveys, includes the companies with the best work environment, with the most satisfied, proud employees.

Work-life balance measures, the working environment, development and training opportunities were all decisive factors in making BBVA the most attractive company to work for in the Spanish financial industry, according to the Randstad Employer Brand Research survey. The study was conducted by an independent entity among some 163,000 respondents —more than 7,100 within Spain— to understand the main reasons why someone would look to pursue a career at a given company rather than another.

In the last year, the bank has stepped up its efforts to improve the wellness and health of its employees. These initiatives are already proving their worth by helping employees in areas as wide-ranging as sleep quality, early detection of genetic diseases and mental health.

The financial institution is launching a new job portal to attract people with technological backgrounds in the different countries where it has a presence. The Group expects to end 2023 with over 2,600 new hires of this type of professionals, 1,000 of which will be in Spain.

The bank offers its data scientists and engineers an extensive and continuous training ecosystem, both in-house and in partnershipwith top international universities and educational institutions,so that they may apply the latest advances in artificialintelligence, machine learning and advanced analytics in thedevelopment of cutting-edge financial products. In addition, italso offers training to other professional profiles so that they canuse data analytics to solve business challenges in their areas.In just 5 years, the BBVA Campus has trained more than50,000 employees, including 900 data scientists, through theData University.

The bank has published an in-house guide to raise awareness among employees of the value of generational diversity. The goal is to confront any lingering prejudices about people’s age. "At BBVA, we have up to four different generations under one roof. We want to drive home the point that everyone here, regardless of age, is highly capable and brings value and talent to the bank," said Heather Spratt, who leads the BBVA employee group concerned with safeguarding generational diversity at the bank.

The U.S. based consulting firm, Gallup, has selected BBVA as one of the most exceptional companies to work for in the world. The Gallup award recognizes organizations that are committed to the corporate culture and talent development of their workforces.

After announcing that the bank will have 35 percent women in management positions in 2024, BBVA has launched the high performance program ‘I am female talent’, which is geared toward the bank’s female employees with the greatest potential for growth. The bank has also presented a new remuneration policy for executive directors, which includes a diversity indicator as part of the variable incentives.

The American magazine Fortune, which compiles the World's Most Admired Companies ranking, once again places BBVA as the first and only Spanish bank on its list.

The 2023 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index measures companies’ commitment and transparency in the presentation and monitoring of gender data. BBVA is listed on this benchmark index for the sixth year in a row with a score that is above the average for all companies; above the average for companies in the finance sector; and above the average for Spanish companies.

Following the introduction of new ways of working, the bank is rolling out a range of corporate wellness initiatives aimed at caring for employees' physical and emotional health.

The BBVA Foundation presented the Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Social Sciences to Mark Granovetter, “the most eminent economic sociologist in the world,” for revealing the power of “loose social ties” among individuals for people's economic and social performance.

The bank is one of the first large companies in Spain to indefinitely commit to remote working. The bank's employees will be able to take advantage of this measure whenever possible depending on the nature of their job position, and will be able to work remotely up to 40 percent of their time. They will benefit from a high degree of independence to organize themselves even on the same day and can distribute this percentage on a quarterly basis. The bank will allow them to do so from two different addresses within the national territory. The bank will sign new contracts with its employees in Spain to adapt them to the Spanish Law on Remote Working. BBVA is thus taking action ahead of the announcement of the end of the state of health emergency to implement a permanent working model based on flexibility, work-life balance and trust in employees.

BBVA will create 200 jobs in two years, with the launch of two technology centers in Bilbao. These centers will have specialized profiles such as computer, telecommunications, systems and industrial engineers, as well as mathematicians.

Working hours that suit the individual, the ability to operate from anywhere in the world, breaking with traditional hierarchical structures and constant renewal to respond to the needs of the market. This is liquid work - a model that puts individual talent at the heart of activities.

While society continues to adapt to the new reality post the pandemic´s outbreak, the workplace has begun to glimpse the guidelines that will mark our new ways of working. Confinement and movement restrictions have made teleworking a valid solution in many sectors and its managers are now studying how to extract the lessons learned and incorporate them into hybrid work models. It's something that will bring on the need to adapt to different work roles, work dynamics and new ways of leading.

According to the latest economic analysis from the BBVA Research team, February’s unemployment figures confirm that labor market conditions continue to improve as COVID-19 cases slow down, vaccination rates rise and restrictions are lifted in some parts of the U.S.

After showing signs of slowing in September, the unemployment rate plunged to 6.9 percent in October, down from 7.9 percent, driven by disproportionately higher job gains in the household employment survey, according to the latest economic analysis from the BBVA Research team.
