BBVA has sold one of the largest loan portfolios in the Spanish market to an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. The portfolio, which has a gross nominal value of nearly 600 million euros, consists of loans from real estate developments distributed throughout Spain, with the largest number in Andalusia, Madrid and Catalonia.

BBVA Executive chairman Francisco González and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto unveiled yesterday BBVA Bancomer’s new headquarters, in the heart of the Mexico City’s Paseo de la Reforma. The event included a fireworks show that could be seen from all across the city. The BBVA Bancomer Tower now stands as the tallest building in the city, and has claimed its spot as one of its architectural landmarks.

BBVA's new corporate headquarters in Madrid have become an architectural and sustainability landmark. Architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron have designed not only a smart but an environmentally and people friendly city, reflective of the financial group’s global digital transformation strategy.

The 7 interconnected low-rise units that integrate Ciudad BBVA gravitate around the 100-meter diameter plaza presided over by La Vela: a 93 meter high-rise that has already claimed a spot in Madrid’s skyline.

BBVA took the opportunity afforded by the construction of its new corporate headquarters in Spain and Mexico to effect a profound change in the ways of working and hasten the digital transformation process of the financial group across the globe.

Simplicity and human scale, technology and sustainability are the defining traits of BBVA new corporate headquarters, designed by Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. The authors of the Beijing Bird’s Nest or the redesign of the Tate Modern in London, drew their inspiration from the towns of the past, cities - paraphrasing Pritzker prize winner Jacques Herzog - “that work and are built for people", to project a modern campus where architecture and technology are put at the service of people.

For the first time, the King and Queen of Spain visited Ciudad BBVA, the Group’s corporate headquarters in Madrid, to unveil a commemorative plaque on the main building, La Vela. The Chairman & CEO of BBVA, Francisco González, thanked King Felipe and Queen Letizia for their visit and explained how BBVA’s new headquarters in Madrid is contributing to the Group’s transformation.

The city of Madrid has a new architectural landmark, located in the Las Tablas District, north of the capital. La Vela, an elliptic high-rise as tall as the Statue of Liberty in New York, has reached its maximum height (93 m). The works to fit out the glazing on both sides of the building will start soon.

BBVA is pleased to announce the operational launch of its new data processing center (DPC) in Tres Cantos (Madrid, Spain), which houses the complete technological infrastructure underpinning the Group’s business in Europe. The facility is one of the world’s most advanced DPCs, with dual Tier IV certification (for design and construction) verifying that it offers optimal levels of reliability and safety.

BBVA presented the project for its new Madrid headquarters today at an act attended by city mayor, Alberto Ruiz Gallardón, and the Bank's Chairman & CEO, Francisco González. The new complex will be located in Las Tablas, a fast-growing area in the north of the capital city. It will be ready by 2011 to receive the first employees. Sustainability and innovation are key aspects of this project, which has been created by architects Herzog & de Meuron.
