BBVA named best bank in Latin America by Euromoney magazine

The British publication also recognized BBVA as the best bank in Mexico—one of the Group's main markets— the best bank in Colombia, and the best bank for corporate clients in Spain.

BBVA won a total of twelve awards at the 2024 Euromoney Awards for Excellence, held last night in London with over 300 bankers and other members of the international financial community in attendance. Among the night's most significant awards, BBVA won the prize for the best bank in Latin America and the best bank in 'Transaction Services' in this region, in recognition of BBVA’s commitment to the transactional segment as one of the main value propositions for its clients.

“BBVA has had impressive momentum in Latin America in 2023, winning individual awards for the best bank in Colombia and Mexico. The Group is poised to take advantage of a potentially more benign macroeconomic context,” explained Euromoney editor Louise Bowman. The business magazine also noted that BBVA has capitalized on its “leading position in the Mexican market to win the award for the best investment bank in the country and secure the award for the best bank for transaction services in Latin America —a landmark win in the category that thus far has been dominated by U.S. investment banks,” Bowman added.

BBVA has particularly excelled in Mexico. In addition to best bank and best investment bank, it also won the award for best bank for corporate clients. These three accolades confirm BBVA's leadership in one of its main markets, where it has more than 30 million customers. In Colombia, BBVA also won three awards: best bank, best bank for corporate clients and best institution for corporate social responsibility. In Peru, the BBVA franchise was honored as the best bank for corporate clients, best bank for SMEs and best bank for ESG criteria.

For Jorge Sáenz-Azcúnaga, Global Head of Country Monitoring at BBVA, this recognition for Latin American franchises and regional awards "are a reflection of the Group's success story, with leading banks in attractive markets and a pioneering strategy in digitization and sustainability. All of this is crucial to explain the strong performance achieved by BBVA." The senior executive stressed that BBVA "is a long-term investor in the region. We believe in the region’s high potential for growth, with clear opportunities for financial inclusion, the development of the region's business community and sustainability.”

Meanwhile, in Europe, BBVA won the award for best bank for corporate clients in Spain, reaffirming its commitment to the country's productive and business community. For Jose Ramón Vizmanos, Head of BBVA CIB Spain: “This award is a recognition of the solid relationship model we have with our clients and the new sectoral specialization structure we implemented in 2023, which allows us to provide support and advisory services that set us apart. This sectoral view, combined with our global product capabilities and local knowledge, allows BBVA Spain to offer our corporate clients the best investment and financing solutions, with an innovative approach and a firm commitment to sustainability.”

The Euromoney Awards for Excellence started in 1992 and were the first of their kind in the global financial industry. In this latest 2024 round, Euromoney received over 1,500 nominations from banks in nearly 100 countries.
