BBVA and Bancamía grant scholarships to 100 young Colombians
The grants went to the children of micro-entrepreneur clients of Bancamía from all over the country, who will now be able to study at university thanks to the resilience, discipline, creativity and strength shown by their parents.
Mario Pardo Bayona, executive president of BBVA in Colombia, had the following words to say at the events ceremony: “Initiatives like these are proof that together we can support young people in Colombia so that they can fulfil their dream of pursuing a university degree. For BBVA, education is the gateway to opportunities and we will continue to focus on social initiatives to promote access to education among children and young people in Colombia.”
This time around, 84% of the entrepreneurs who nominated their children for this program qualify as economically vulnerable, 35% run their business in rural areas and 34% have only basic education. Moreover, 72% are women and 10% claim to face some form of social hardship or handicap.
