BBVA launches campaign inviting employees to join the fight against COVID-19
BBVA has launched a campaign for employees to do their part to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Employees who wish to do so, can join this cause through the campaign ‘Your contribution is worth double’ in which the bank will contribute an additional euro for every euro donated by employees.
Employees who would like to participate can donate whatever amount they would like to support the fight against coronavirus. For every contribution made, BBVA will make another for the same amount. This amount is in addition to the €25 million that the bank has already committed to donate to fight the pandemic in the countries where it operates.
The donated funds will go toward the fight against the coronavirus outbreak in three areas:
- Support for public healthcare systems through the purchase of repirators and medical equipment, as well as the delivery to official agencies.
- Socioeconomic support for more vulnerable populations through financial contributions to social institutions that are working with these groups. It also includes BBVA employee participation in volunteer initiatives promoted by these organizations.
- Support for scientific research on the virus and its treatment.
This campaign will be gradually implemented in the countries where the Group operates. In some, like Colombia, the more than 7,000 BBVA employees in the country have participated in the campaign #ADayofSalaryFor with which they aim to contribute to the care of those who need it the most and could be affected by coronavirus.
In parallel, BBVA in Spain is also supporting the Red Cross through Bizum. Starting March 26th, the bank will offer customers the possibility of making donations that will be allocated to the population in general and people in situations of vulnerability.
This package of measures is in addition to the others previously announced by BBVA, and will be expanded with other initiatives, all joining forces in the fight against COVID-19.
